Expenditure on vaccinations prior to leaving Denmark for a posting abroad is covered by 100 per cent for all posted staff and their accompanying families. Similarly, re-vaccinations after departure from Denmark are covered by 100 per cent. This applies also to malaria pills/malaria prophylaxis as this preventive treatment is considered equivalent to vaccinations.
Please note that some vaccinations must be repeated. It may therefore be necessary to start in good time prior to departure.
Vaccinations given by own general practitioner may not normally be expected to be refunded.

The MFA has staff posted in a great number of countries where there are considerable health-related challenges. It is important for the Ministry to prepare its staff and their families in the best possible manner to enable them to handle these challenges and ensure their well-being on the post.
A policy has therefore been introduced regarding hardship posts of high risk to personal health and safety. The objective is to give an overall view of the personnel policy measures and framework that apply to persons – and their families – who apply for, are posted to/employed at, or leave one of these posts.
The classification of the hardship posts of high risk to personal health is based on an overall assessment of
i) the quality of health facilities on the post,
ii) whether, in emergency cases, there may be a need for treatment outside the host country, and
iii) whether there may be health risks related to staying on the post as a result of, for example, malaria and air pollution.
The classification follows the consulting firm ECA International’s location ratings (score on categories “health” and “air pollution”) and is updated on an annual basis.
Staff who wish to learn what the health situation is like on individual posts are recommended to use SOS International's website - WorldWise, where country-specific searches will provide information on health conditions in various countries. Information is also available on SOS' preferred hospitals and clinics in the countries, including comments on these. There is only access to the WorldWise-website via the MFA’s Intranet.
Danish diplomats who are posted to a Mission in an EU/EEA Member State or Switzerland are required in connection with their posting to bring with them a form known as E106 DK. The form is not applicable in the Nordic countries where the yellow health insurance card is used (previously “sygesikringsbevis”).
The E106 DK form gives you and your accompanying family the right to health insurance services according to the country’s rules and on the same conditions as apply to the host country’s citizens.
The form must be submitted as soon as possible to the local health insurance office. The health insurance office will then register you as members of the host country’s public health service at the expense of Denmark.
You yourselves are not to pay a membership contribution to the health service in the host country. However, you yourselves must pay if citizens in the host country are to pay for specific health services. This expenditure cannot be covered through E106 DK, but it is possible to apply for refunding via the MFA’s agreement with SOS International on the administration of sickness and home transport.
You will not be entitled to health services in the host country until you have been registered as a member of the health insurance service there.
The names of family members (spouse and children living at home under the age of 18) may be added to the form provided they do not have independent health insurance in the other EU/EEA Member State or Switzerland.
Usually, the E106 DK form is only issued in connection with the issue of a special health card. In order to apply for an E106 DK form, it is therefore necessary to make an application for a special health card.
