Denmark supports efforts in the areas of environment, natural resources, adaptation to and prevention of climate change and access to sustainable energy in a great number of developing countries. Denmark is also active in the international fora where the countries of the world discuss and draw up the strategies for sustainable development
It is a requirement for sustainable global development that we are capable of uniting protection of the environment, the climate and nature with economic growth, poverty reduction and social development. Denmark is working for this under the heading of green economy.
Green economy implies that we show consideration for the protection of natural resources concurrently with consideration for developing the economy and reducing poverty in the developing countries. For example, Denmark’s efforts for growth and employment in many countries also have a green aspect. Investment in sustainable energy can provide poor population groups with access to energy while simultaneously meaning less emission of greenhouse gasses, less smoke and pollution and new jobs. Denmark operates with the following four prioritised focus areas in the fields of climate, energy, environment and green economy.
