In January 2015 the Danish Government launched the modality “Partnering with Denmark – Danish Authorities in International Cooperation”. With this modality, Denmark pursues synergies between development cooperation and trade and at the same time strengthens bilateral relations with 14 selected countries that are of strategic importance to Denmark. At the same time we work hand-in-hand with the Danish sector ministries on doing so in order to create a new attractive instrument and strengthen the cooperation of our international efforts across ministries.
The Partnering with Denmark modality aims at meeting the international demand for sharing Danish experiences with establishing a conducive policy, planning and regulatory framework that promotes responsible and sustainable growth, employment and social welfare. The modality also promotes the long-term internationalisation of Danish business and improves the cooperation between Danish ministries in Denmark’s international engagement. Finally the modality aims at strengthening Danish bilateral relations with a number of emerging economies facing important decisions for the moulding of the future societies.
Danish sector ministries enter into 3-5 year cooperation with partner sector ministries on policy development and regulatory issues. Growth Counsellors with strong sector backgrounds are posted to the embassies in the same countries. They facilitate the cooperation between the ministries, but also work to share information and networks with the private sector and attract Danish companies to the countries. The countries are selected from the OECD-DAC list of countries eligible for development cooperation, but they are also selected out of long term strategic interest for Denmark. A final selection is based on a strategic matchmaking between development challenges in the countries and areas where the public and private sector in Denmark has internationally recognised competences: food and agricultures, water, environment, energy, health, education etc.
The following 14 countries have been selected for the modality: Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, India, Iran, Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar, South Africa, Turkey and Vietnam.
17 Growth Counsellors have been recruited based on in-depth knowledge and insights into the sector and the significant Danish stakeholders in the public and private sector and are now posted to the Embassies.
The Partnering with Denmark is provided the opportunity to expand with 8 new Strategic Sector Cooperations and 8 associated Growth Counsellors in 2017. Furthermore, some of the existing Strategic Sector Cooperations and Growth Counsellor positions will have the opportunity to extend when these expire over the next few years.
