On the third of October, Syrian forces shelled a residential area in the Turkish city of Akcakale with artillery. 4 children and a woman have been reported killed.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Villy Søvndal states:"The Syrian artillery fire into Turkey is a deeply shocking development and I condemn it in the strongest terms. The fire is in clear breach of Turkish sovereignty and international law. My thoughts are with the families of those killed and injured in this senseless attack."
"Along with the other NATO members, Denmark stands by Turkey and demands that the Syrian regime immediately brings an end to such acts. NATO continues to monitor the situation closely."
"This is just the latest reminder that the situation in Syria continues to escalate and that the Syrian regime continues its completely unacceptable behaviour towards innocent civilians. The attack clearly shows that the situation in Syria constitutes a threat to international peace and security and that action by the UN Security Council is needed more than ever."
