The Danish EU Presidency in 2012 will be a major task for the Danish government involving all ministries. To handle this task a central logistics and communication unit has been established in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These units will assist the Danish administration e.g. with organizing large meetings in Denmark and to establish the presidency web site. The work is in progress and will be intensified during 2011.
In November 2010, the Danish government decided that seven informal Council meetings are to be held in Denmark (some of the meetings will include more than one minister) and a number of meetings and conferences on senior official level.
In addition to these meetings, the Commission, the European Parliament and the international press will also be visiting Denmark. In relation to this period during the Presidency, there will also be cultural events focussing on Denmark and Danish culture.
The meetings in Denmark will be held in Bella Centeret situated in Copenhagen for the first three months and in Horsens Forum, situated in Jutland for the last three months. Furthermore, the central administration’s own conference centre, Eigtved’s Pakhus, will be used for a number of smaller meetings. The establishing of the two facilities and other logistic preparations is progressing well. There is a close cooperation with relevant authorities about among other transportation and safety. A number of tenders have been launched, and after the tender process agreements have been made with suppliers of for example professional conference assistance. The website EU2012.dk will be a central communication tool during the Danish Presidency. The website is expected to be launched mid-December 2011, shortly before Denmark takes over the presidency.
On the website you will be able to find the latest news about the Presidency, the calendar of meetings, details on spokespersons, a press room, relevant publications on the Presidency and Denmark and links to cultural events taking place during the Presidency. Another important task is to make the presidency open, transparent and available to the media both in general and in connection with meetings in EU-system and Denmark.
On November 1st the visual identity of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU was unveiled. To find more information and download the logo of the Presidency click here.
