It is a great honour and privilege for me to serve as the Ambassador of Denmark to Tunisia. It is particularly meaningful to take on this role at an important moment in the relationship between our two countries, as Denmark establishes its Embassy in Tunis. I am deeply honoured to have the opportunity to open Denmark’s Embassy and to contribute to writing a new chapter in the long-standing friendship between Denmark and Tunisia.
Denmark and Tunisia already enjoy strong relations, built on mutual respect, dialogue and many years of cooperation. The opening of our Embassy reflects Denmark’s commitment to Tunisia and our ambition to be an even closer and more present partner. It gives us a unique opportunity to build on what we have achieved together while developing our partnership in new areas.
Tunisia is a country of remarkable history, culture and talent, but also a country with enormous potential for the future. Its young and well-educated population, its strong links to Europe and Africa, and its ambitions for economic development and the green transition provide many opportunities for closer cooperation with Denmark.
Our partnership is broad. Denmark and Tunisia have worked together for many years through development cooperation, particularly in support of young people, employment, human rights and civil society. Looking ahead, we want to deepen our cooperation in areas where our countries share interests and where Danish experience and expertise can make a difference. This includes the green transition and renewable energy, trade and investment, migration, health, education and stronger exchanges between our people and institutions.
Economic cooperation will be an important part of this next chapter. Danish companies are already present in Tunisia, and I see considerable potential for bringing our business communities even closer together. Denmark has strong expertise in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, water, life sciences, maritime transport and sustainable solutions – areas that are also important to Tunisia’s future development. At the same time, Tunisia has much to offer Danish companies, including a skilled workforce, a dynamic private sector and a strategic location connecting Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean.
But relations between countries are ultimately about people. During my time in Tunisia, I hope to meet Tunisians from across the country – from government and business to civil society, universities, young entrepreneurs and cultural communities. I want our Embassy to be open, curious and engaged, and to listen as much as we speak. Strong partnerships are built through trust, dialogue and a genuine understanding of each other.
For me personally, it is a privilege to represent Denmark in Tunisia and to experience the country, its people and its culture. I have already been touched by the warmth and hospitality with which we have been welcomed.
Opening a new Embassy is both a responsibility and an extraordinary opportunity. I look forward to building on the already strong relationship between Denmark and Tunisia, creating new connections between our countries and working together on the challenges and opportunities we share.
I am excited about what lies ahead – and deeply honoured to be part of this new chapter in Danish-Tunisian relations.
