Commercial Advisor

Denmark is opening an embassy in Buenos Aires! The Embassy will work to further enhance the strong bilateral relations between Denmark and Argentina and strengthen the Danish presence in South America significantly. 

To help establish the new Embassy, we are seeking a dynamic, positive, and professional mission employed staff members with a strong commercial sense and proven track-record of results to work as Commercial Advisor. 


This position is foreseen to be the engine in the Embassy’s Economic Diplomacy team, consisting of the Deputy Head of Mission, the Commercial Advisor as well as an intern. At the same time, you will work as an integral part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs wider regional commercial and economic diplomacy team in Latin America (Bogota, Brasilia, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Santiago and Sao Paulo), encompassing colleagues from all Danish representations in the region.

The regional work is highly structured around key sectors that represents Danish strongholds in general, i.e. Energy & Environment, Health & Life Sciences, Food & Agro and Tech & Defense. In Buenos Aires you will be expected to work proactively in one or two of these sectors but be ready to contribute to all of them, depending on demand and need.

As Commercial Advisor, you have a personal yearly activity target. At the same time, the regional team is collectively responsible for achieving the targets set by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for all markets in Latin America as a whole. This aspect of the position makes commercial capabilities and good customer relations skills key competences.


Job description:
The main tasks of the Commercial Advisor will include:

  •  Advise and assist Danish companies in developing market and sales opportunities in Argentina and the wider region. By creating value through consulting services, you will work towards creating the ideal conditions for Danish companies to establish or expand their presence in Argentina and the wider region.
  • Provide a wide range of support, including public affairs support, access to authorities and stakeholders as well as markets analyses 
  • Proactively identify business and cooperation opportunities for Danish organisations and companies seeking trade and other forms of cooperation with Argentinian public and private organisations/companies, including Danish and foreign funding for project implementation. 
  • Coordinate and organize trade events like business delegations, webinars, seminars, roundtable discussions, knowledge networking session and others for specific Danish companies and in general
  • Participate in internal and external trade events, seminars, exhibitions etc. in both Denmark and Argentina in order to build network and gain in-depth industry knowledge
  • Advise existing Danish companies in Argentina in resolving different business and bureaucratic issues, tax/import duties, ease of business etc especially in respect of government rules, regulations, etc. 
  • Maintain and nurture relations to relevant government organizations and agencies, private sector players, multilateral organisations and other partners 
  • Working with the regional team/sector team and also with global colleagues for information, knowledge-sharing, implementation of projects, organize and coordinate trade events, attend in-house training 
  • Provide and coordinate inputs to strategies, speeches etc. Write articles/posts to promote trade between Denmark and Argentina for use on Embassy website, Facebook, LinkedIn and other media 
  • Working in tandem with the Embassy as a whole with an aim of strengthening the partnership between Denmark and Argentina 

Please note, that in the start-up phase of the Embassy, all staff are expected to be flexible in terms of work tasks and help out wherever required.


Qualifications / Requirements:

  •  A relevant academic education, i.e. in business, finance, economics or social sciences.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience from working internationally with European (preferably Danish or Nordic) companies, focusing on business development and trade promotion. 
  •  A background in the food & agriculture or healthcare sector will be a particular asset
  • A strong commercial eye for opportunities and focus on implementation and results
  • The ability to think and work strategically with stakeholders in the business sector as well as with local authorities
  • Excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal and networking skills 
  • Strong personal drive and the ability to work independently while contributing to the team.
  • Proven ability to navigate in and comply with complex rules, procedures, and guidelines and to stay calm at times of high work load and time pressure
  • Fluency in Spanish and very good spoken and written English. Danish language skills will be an asset but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of Danish strongholds and experience with public-private partnerships would be an asset
  • Knowledge of the Argentinian economy and markets

The starting date is projected to be 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Security clearance is a strict pre-requirement for employment and may take more time. 

Until the permanent chancellery of the Danish Embassy is established, the team will be working from temporary facilities centrally located in Buenos Aires.
