Consular Officer

Denmark is opening an embassy in Buenos Aires! The Embassy will work to further enhance the strong bilateral relations between Denmark and Argentina and strengthen the Danish presence in South America significantly.

To help establish the new Embassy, we are seeking a dynamic, positive, and professional mission‑employed staff member to work as consular officer and oversee the services of the Embassy towards Danish citizens and the extensive Danish diaspora in Argentina.  

The Commercial officer will be part of the Embassy’s Administrative and Consular team, working closely with colleagues across a wide range of tasks.  

Job description

Tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Handling of applications for visa and residence/work permits
  • Handling of passport applications and issuing of passports
  • Responding to general inquiries regarding visa and residence/work permits incl. ensuring up-to-date information on the webpage
  • First point of contact to Danish organisations in Argentina
  • Assisting Danish citizens (nationals and foreign residents) in various consular matters
  • Handling of consular cases and various requests in close cooperation with the Danish and Argentinian authorities
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks

Depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant, duties could also include:

  • Cultural promotions, public diplomacy and communications
  • Managing incoming/outgoing calls and emails of the Embassy, manning the reception, receving guests

The final job description and the organisation of the Embassy will be determined when all staff has been recruited to the Embassy and will depend on the joint as well as individual qualifications and experience of each team member.

In the start-up phase of the Embassy, all staff are expected to be flexible in terms of work tasks and help out where required.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of proven experience from a similar position, preferably from a diplomatic mission or embassy.
  • A bachelor’s degree or similar vocational administrative qualifications
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisations skills
  • Strong personal drive and the ability to work independently while contributing to the team.
  • A strong sense of responsibility, integrity and discretion
  • Proven ability to navigate in and comply with complex rules, procedures, and guidelines and to stay calm at times of high work load and time pressure
  • Fluency in Spanish and good spoken and written English. Danish language skills will be an important asset.
  • Strong IT skills, incl. MS Office.

The starting date is projected to be 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Security clearance is a strict pre-requirement for employment and may take more time.

Until the permanent chancellery of the Danish Embassy is established, the team will be working from temporary facilities centrally located in Buenos Aires.
