Lost Danish Driving Licence

If you are temporarily in Australia or New Zealand and your Danish driving licence has been lost or stolen, you should:

  • Report the loss to the local police and request a police report
  • Contact the Danish Road Safety and Transport Agency (Færdselsstyrelsen) who can issue a declaration (in English) to confirm that you hold a valid Danish driving licence (“erklæring om førerret”). You can contact them by digital post or by email to [email protected]. 
  • If you have Mit-ID you may report your driving licence lost on this website (borger.dk)  

 

The Mission can assist you with contacting the Danish Road Safety and Transport Agency (Færdselsstyrelsen) in order to request a declaration of your driving rights, however the request will not be handled any faster. A handling fee applies. See The Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of fees.

Please be aware that the Danish Road Safety and Transport Agency will forward the declaration to you directly. 

Driving in Australia without a valid driving licence is at the driver’s own risk. It is up to the local police whether they recognise the declaration of driving rights in place of the original licence.
