Danish citizens must apply for a preliminary authorization, Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), to enter Canada if they travel by plane, including transit. An eTA is not required if crossing the border by car, bus, train or boat/ship. An eTA is not required if you have a valid visa or residence permit.
You must apply for the authorization prior to travelling to Canada. An approved eTA is required to board the plane. Without an approved eTA, boarding will be denied at the point of departure.
Applications for an eTA should only be submitted through the official application portal.
The processing time is usually only a few hours, but please note that in some cases it can be up to 14 days. It's always recommend to apply for the eTA as early as possible.
If you need to contact the Canadian authorities about your eTA application, please do so via their online contact form. The Danish Embassy is not able to assist with rush processing or contact the Canadian authorities on your behalf.
Please note that having an approved eTA is not a guarantee that you will be allowed entry to Canada. The final decision is made by the Canadian immigration authorities upon arrival.
Persons with Danish/Canadian dual citizenship cannot apply for an eTA. According to Canadian law, Canadian citizens must enter Canada using their Canadian passport.
