The below is specific information for the application process in Canada.
Step 1: Start the application
Begin by completing a copy of the passport application form.

Step 2: Gather documents
To ensure efficient processing of your application, it's important to gather all of the required documents in our document checklist prior to submitting your application. If all documents are not submitted, there's a risk of your application being delayed or refused.

Step 3: Submit your application
Applications for passport must be submitted in person. Applications for a biometric passport can be submitted in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. This is required in order to verify your identity, collect your biometric data and record your digital signature for the new passport.
Applications for children under the age of 12, emergency passports and passport extensions can also be submitted at the any of our honorary consulates.
Appointments are required at all locations.
Processing Time
The processing time is 3 to 5 weeks.
Return of Passport
New passports can be returned to you using a prepaid, self-addressed courier envelope or you can have it shipped directly to a consulate near you. If you prefer the latter, make sure that you inform the consular staff of this when submitting your application. Please note that there will be an additional fee for this.
Please note that if you choose to make use of a self-addressed return envelope, the Embassy, Consulate General or the honorary consulates cannot be held responsible for passports lost by a courier company.
