Medical certificates (destinations outside EU)

It is your responsibility to check whether you are allowed to bring your medication into the country you are visiting. For questions regarding local requirements for the importation of medication in connection with residence or travel abroad, we kindly refer you to the relevant embassy or representation in Denmark to find out how you should proceed and what documentation you may need to bring. Please find the relevant embassy here.

Medication certificates or medical statements must be issued by your doctor or hospital. Contact your doctor or hospital regarding the issuance of medication certificates or medical statements. You can receive the document electronically via Digital Post or have the doctor/hospital issue the certificate/statement with a physical/wet signature.

Medication certificates or pill passports (destinations inside EU) issued by a pharmacy cannot be legalised, as a pharmacy is not a public Danish authority.

You must make a purchase for legalisation/Apostille in our webshop prior to submission, physical sending, or digital forwarding of the document for legalisation. It costs 230 DKK per document. You will receive a purchase receipt by email.

Once the purchase has been made, the medication certificate/medical statement can be:

  1. Received in Digital Post on www.borger.dk and forwarded directly from Digital Post to the Legalisation Office. You can find the guide here. Remember to include the purchase or legalisation number in the subject line.
  2. Received with a physical/wet signature from the doctor/hospital and submitted by personal attendance or alternatively sent by physical mail or courier to the Legalisation Office. We do not accept scans, copies, or printouts of physically signed medication certificates/medical statements.

When the document is received by the Legalisation Office:

  1. The document forwarded from Digital Post will be printed by the Legalisation Office and collected by personal attendance or alternatively sent back by physical mail or courier.
  2. The document submitted by personal attendance, in this case the document will be legalised immediately or alternatively sent back by physical mail or courier.

When the document is to be sent by post or courier:

You can expect a processing time of 5-7 working days after we receive documents by post or courier. Please note that the processing time may be longer during busy periods.

You are responsible for the postage and/or courier collection in connection with the legalisation of documents. You can optionally purchase return postage for a Quick Letter in our webshop or alternatively buy return postage directly on PostNord’s website. The purchase receipt and return postage code/label must be enclosed with the documents for sending or sent digitally to [email protected]

For courier collection within our opening hours, please send the consignment note/waybill to [email protected] after we have processed your documents.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not responsible for the shipment and cannot provide guidance on delivery times. Please refer to the relevant postal service provider or courier company.

If you are not registered for Digital Post:

If you are not registered for Digital Post, you must contact the doctor/hospital to have a medication certificate/medical statement issued, which is stamped and signed with a physical/wet signature. A scan or a copy of the signature is not accepted.
