2009.04 Evaluation of Danish Support for Financial Services in Tanzania

The evaluation covers Danish support to the financial sector in Tanzania from 2003 to 2008. The overall objectives of the evaluation are to assess the outcomes achieved from the Danish support to financial services in Tanzania during that period and to distil key lessons from the Danish support with regard to strategies and approaches to support to financial services. The Danish assistance has supported a bank (providing financial services to households, local savings and credit cooperatives as well as small and medium enterprises); an institution (primarily aiming at supporting small and medium sized farmers and agro-businesses) and finally a joint donor basket fund that provides support to the financial sector, in particular micro-credit institutions, in order to improve the services towards micro, small and medium enterprises and poor households.

The evaluation was carried out in the spring of 2009, by consultants from the British Oxford Policy Management.
