Seven partner consortia receive support from Danida Market Development Partnerships

60 million DKK for promotion of market-driven growth and employment in developing countries

The below seven partner consortia will receive a total of DKK 60 million for partnership projects.  Through a commercially viable business case, the partnerships will contribute to local economic growth, better jobs and income opportunities, with a particular focus on women and youth.

The Minister for Development Cooperation says:

”I am pleased with the wide response to Danida Market Development Partnerships.  It shows that we are on a good path to mobilizing companies for the SDGs agenda. I am particularly pleased that this time, I can grant support to partner consortia, who include Danish as well as local small and medium-sized enterprises.”

Partner consortia who have been granted 2017 support are:

• DanchurchAid with AMFRI as key business partner and two Danish SMEs as commercial partners; objective: Increase income and employment for refugees and local host communities in Uganda through organic production for export;

• Save the Children with Coderstrust Global as a key business partner; objective: Better economic integration of vulnerable young people in Bangladesh through inclusion in the ICT market;

• BRAC UK with Philips Lighting as key business partner; objective: Growth and employment opportunities for women in Tanzania through innovation in the market for solar products;

• Women's World Banking with Unilever as key business partner; objective: Increase women's financial inclusion in Pakistan;

• Heifer Project International Kenya with Kenyan SME Happy Cow as key business partner; objective: Market-driven sustainable growth in the dairy sector in Kenya;

• ICCO Cooperation with Olvea Burkina Faso as key business partner; objective: Better income and employment for women in Burkina Faso through innovation in the sesame and honey value chains;

• Swiss Church Aid with Swiss PAKKA AG as key business partner; objective: Increase income and employment opportunities for farmers in Georgia through innovation in the hazelnut value chain.

In 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will reach out to Danish civil society organizations and companies, including SMEs to promote knowledge of the Market Development Partnerships in.

Danida Market Development Partnerships contributes to sustainable market development that promotes the achievement of the SDGs. Focusing on SDG 8 the main objective is to promote sustainable local economic growth and employment in developing countries. The Partnership programme features an innovative approach to involvement of the business sector and contributes to motivating and mobilizing investments from the private sector.
