Certificates of residence and civil status

When you need to have a certificate of residence or civil status legalised, you must first order a certificate at

Once you have received the certificate in your e-Boks (applies only to people more than 15 years of age, residing in Denmark and with a Danish CPR number), you must print it and appear in person at the municipality to get the certificate signed with a physical signature.

It is important that your municipality stamps and signs the document with a physical signature. A scan or copy of the signature cannot be accepted. In addition, the signatory's name and job title must be clearly stated in the document.

If we do not have the signatory in our system, we have to contact the municipality to verify that the signature is genuine. To speed up the process, you may ask the municipality to send an email with a scanned signature to our secure email address, confirming the employee’s signature. The employee's name and job title must also appear.

Don't have e-Boks?

e-Boks is an online digital mailbox. If you do not have e-Boks, please contact the municipality for a certificate that will be stamped and signed with a physical signature. A scan or copy of the signature cannot be accepted.
