Mr. President,
Denmark welcomes the delegation of Mexico and thanks it for its presentation.
We welcome the Mexican Supreme Court’s ruling to federally decriminalize abortion based on its finding that the previous ban was unconstitutional, but note the continued need to remove barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health and to combat violence against women.
Denmark recommends Mexico to:
• Harmonize legislation in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling across all States to ensure that everyone can access safe and legal abortion, regardless of place of residence.
• Ensure that the National Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists has sufficient resources to effectively carry out its mandate.
