Danish Support for Ukraine

We are now six months into Russia’s brutal, unjustifiable and unprovoked war against Ukraine. Denmark is strongly committed to supporting Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian military aggression. Russia’s irresponsible and illegal actions are changing the existing European security architecture, and its consequences – which are already being felt – will be far-reaching and long-term both for Ukraine, its people as well as for Europe and globally. Denmark will continue to defend the UN Charter, strengthen the multilateral system and mitigate the derivative consequences of the war in Ukraine in cooperation and solidarity. It is crucial that the international community continues to stand united in its unwavering and enduring support to Ukraine.

Denmark supports Ukraine in various sectors, but has three main focus areas:

1. Military support

Denmark is among the top contributors of military support to Ukraine measured by GDP and per capita. On August 11, Denmark, UK and Ukraine hosted a successful conference in Copenhagen with the aim of strengthening cooperation and planning to ensure the right military equipment, training and financial support also in the longer-term. Denmark has in total allocated 403,2 million EUR in military support to Ukraine.

2. Humanitarian support

Denmark is the second largest per capita donor of humanitarian support. Danish humanitarian support is mainly focused on mine clearance, preparations for the coming winter, and protection of women and girls. Denmark has allocated 56 million EUR in humanitarian and acute support to Ukraine.

3. Reconstruction of Mykolaiv

Denmark has taken on a special role in the reconstruction of the city of Mykolaiv and is committed to help reconstruct and rebuild the future of Ukraine. To this end, Denmark has donated a first support package of 13,4 million EUR for acute reconstruction mainly aiming at preparing Mykolaiv and others for the coming winter.
