Postal voting abroad for elections in Greenland
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, elections will be held for Inatsisartut (the Greenlandic Parliament). Additionally, municipal, settlement council, and parish representation elections will take place in Greenland on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Voters can already cast their votes by mail for the elections.
Voting Rights
You must meet the following conditions to have the right to vote in elections in Greenland:
- You must have lived in Greenland for at least six months.
- You must still be residing in Greenland.
- You must be registered on an electoral roll.
- In addition, you must have Danish citizenship to vote in the Inatsisartut (Parliament) elections in Greenland.
If you move outside Greenland, you will lose your right to vote and be removed from the electoral roll.
Certain groups may retain their voting rights
Students, patients, Members of the Parliament, representatives of the Greenland Self-Government, and individuals who are considered equivalent, can retain their voting rights. The same applies to their spouses and cohabiting partners.
It is however a condition that your residence outside Greenland is temporary and that, prior to leaving, you have lived in Greenland for a continuous period of at least two years. Additionally, it is a requirement that you take responsibility for being registered on the electoral roll in the municipality in Greenland where you were last registered in the population register.

How to Vote by Mail
If you are staying abroad, you may vote by mail at any Danish or Greenlandic representation in the country where you are staying. Remember to bring valid identification (passport, driver's license, or comparable).
