Legalisation/Verification

Original Nigerian documents must be verified and legalised by competent authorities in order to be recognised in Denmark.

The purpose of a verification is to confirm the veracity of a document. The purpose of a legalisation is to confirm the authority of the signatory of a document.

It is the responsibility of the holder of a Nigerian document to have the documents verified and legalised when required, f.i. marriage or divorce certificates prior to getting married or applying for family reunification; birth, death, adoption or sole custody certificates prior to applying for family reunification or work and residence permit, etc.

Verification and legalisation is at the expense of the holder.

Follow these steps:

1. For verification, contact one of the below-mentioned legal practitioners approved by the Embassy.
2. For legalisation contact the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
3. Once legalised in the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy can legalise the signature of the consular officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

5. For the amount of fee in NGN, see here. One fee for each legalization, so if you have two documents, it will be two times the fee.
6. Contact Embassy for appointment by e-mail [email protected] or by phone +234 (0) 9 903 6636 on Mondays and Wednesdays between 12 noon - 2 p.m.
7. On the day of appointment, bring documents to be legalised and documentation for the transfer of fee to the Embassy.
