The Faroe Islands and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark. As a main principle, the Danish Constitution stipulates that the foreign and security interests for all parts of the Kingdom of Denmark are the responsibility of the Danish government.
On issues such as security policy, European questions or the UN, there may, however, exist a strong interest among the Faroese and Greenlandic people regarding aspects of these policies. To safeguard the foreign policy interests of all parts of the Kingdom, a close and continuous co-operation exists between the Danish government and Faroese and Greenlandic home rule governments.
Practice in recent years has shown a clear development in the direction of decisive Faroese and Greenlandic influence on matters of specific importance to the external relations of the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
