What is Danida

Danida is the name of Denmark’s development cooperation. Danida is the branch under the Danish Foreign Ministry responsible of administrating Denmark’s development assistance.

Denmark’s overall development policy aims to fight poverty through the promotion of human rights and economic growth.

Denmark’s development and humanitarian assistance strategy targets four main priority areas:

  • Security, peace and protection
  • Prevention of irregular migration
  • Sustainable growth for everyone
  • Freedom - democracy, human rights and equality

Danida facts:

  • Since 1978 Danish development assistance has constantly remained above the UN target of 0.7 per cent of GNI.
  • Denmark is one of only a handful of countries in the world that lives up to the UN target.
  • Denmark has been granting development assistance since the end of the Second World War. 

Danida is responsible for the planning, implementation and quality assurance of Denmark’s development assistance. At Danish embassies and missions around the world local and posted staff are in charge of the administration and management of Denmark’s development cooperation in close cooperation with the individual country.

Denmark is a member of OECD, and consequently, Danida is thoroughly examined at a regular basis and its work generally receives high ratings.
