How to apply for a Danish passport

All applicants must submit their passport application in person.

Required documentation:

• Passport application form – completed and signed. 
• The passport of both parents.
• Original birth certificate if this is your first time applying for a Danish passport.
• Your original certificate of Danish Nationality, if you have been issued one (Indfødsretsbevis).

All children must have, and travel on their own passport when travelling. They cannot be enrolled in a Danish passport of their parent/guardian. 

Both parents and the child (irrespective of age) must be present when submitting the passport application. 

Required documentation:

• Passport application form – completed and signed.
• Original birth certificate – both parents’ names must appear on the certificate.
• Parents’ original valid passports.
• Parental consent on page 3 of the application form is to be signed by both parents.
• When applying for babies and very young children, please bring a photo, which meets the Requirements for passport photos. 
• Your child’s latest passport.

Consent to passport?

According to Danish law, both parents must give their consent each time they apply for a Danish passport for their child until the child reaches the age of 18.
If one parent has acquired sole custody/parental responsibility, documentation to this effect must be presented together with the passport application and only one consent must be given.
If the other parent does not live in the country where you are applying from, consent may be given at any other Danish Embassy or affiliated consulate that is more convenient for the absent parent.
If the other parent lives in Denmark, consent may be given at any Danish municipality.

Furthermore, digital consent can be given if the absent parent has MitID. Visit this web page and fill in the relevant consent. If you are giving consent for more than one child, the process must be completed for each child applying for a Danish passport. 

Please note that the Danish Embassy has the right to ask for further documentation if considered necessary.

If you have lost your passport and are travelling imminently, the Embassy can issue a provisional passport.

As with ordinary passports you need to book a prior appointment and hand in the application in person. 
 
Required documentation:

• Passport application form – completed and signed. 
• Your original certificate of Danish Nationality if you have been issued one (Indfødsretsbevis).
• A photo which meets the Requirements for passport photos. 
• If you have lost your passport you need to bring a police report on the loss. 

Please note that the fee is higher when it is not possible to bring your previous passport.  If you wish to apply for at passport outside of embassy opening hours additional fees will apply. 

Please be informed that not all countries accept provisional passports.  You should verify if your destination and/or transit countries accept it. 

If your passport is near expiration and you need to travel while you await a new passport you can apply for an extension of your present passport. 

Please note:

A passport can only be extended once. And only within within 3 months from date of expiration. It can only be extended up to 12 months.

Extension can only be done by appointment, in person and with a completed and signed passport application form.

Please be informed that not all countries accept extended passports.  You should verify if your destination and/or transit countries accept it.
