Serbia, EU and reforms
In January 2014, EU started accession negotiations with Serbia. Ever since, Serbian Government has been harmonizing Serbia's legislation according to the EU requirements. Economic development is focused on boosting competitiveness and long-term, inclusive growth. Accordingly, Serbia continues further efforts to effectively implement structural reforms in key areas: creating a more favourable business environment for investment; greening Serbia's energy sector and fully opening the energy market; and increasing employment, in particular of young people. The business climate has improved significantly in Serbia since the reforms were initiated. The World Bank's Ease of Doing Business report shows Serbia’s 44th place out of 190 economies in 2020.
