Consular and Legal Matters

The Embassy provides consular assistance to Danish nationals and foreign nationals permanently residing in Denmark if they encounter difficulties whilst living in or visiting the United Kingdom.

Fees apply for the consular services provided by Danish embassies and consulates abroad as well as by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen. Please see the Executive Order concerning Foreign Service Payments.

At the Embassy we can:

  • Advise you on how to transfer funds to pay for your return journey
  • Advise you on which local or Danish authority to contact for further guidance on subject outside of our remit
  • Issue an emergency passport
  • Provide you with a list of lawyers, for example if you are arrested or detained
  • Help you contact your family in Denmark
  • Help you contact your insurance company in the event of illness, an accident or death
  • Help you with contact details to local funeral directors if an uninsured Danish national dies abroad.

At the Embassy we cannot:

  • Pay your expenses in connection with an emergency
  • Lend you money
  • Carry out banking transactions on your behalf
  • Provide or make social benefits payments
  • Make pension payments
  • Provide legal representation or assistance
  • Act as your interpreter or translator
  • Secure your release from detention or prison
  • Pay your lawyer or your hospital or medical bills
  • Find you a job
  • Obtain a work permit for you
  • Make an unlawful stay lawful.
