Travel to Denmark from the UK

A new digital border management system – the Entry/Exit System (EES) – has been introduced to make travelling to Europe easier and more efficient.

EES applies to non-EU nationals regardless of whether they are visa-exempt such as British citizens or third-country nationals residing in the UK requiring a short-stay visa to travel to the Schengen area.

What is the Entry/Exit System (EES)?

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is an IT system designed to automate border control procedures making travel to European countries using the EES easier and more efficient.

How will the EES work?

European countries using the EES have introduced the system gradually at their external borders since 12 October 2025.

As of 10 April 2026, passport stamping is fully replaced by the digital Entry/Exit System, which – with some exceptions – will record non-EU nationals’ biometric data, data from the travel document and travel dates. Refusals of entry will also be recorded in the system.
