Information on employment, recruitment and study opportunities in Denmark

Information on employment, recruitment and study opportunities in Denmark

The Embassy of Denmark in Kampala is pleased to see the strong interest among Ugandan professionals in working and studying in Denmark, and we receive many enquiries about jobs, internships and recruitment programmes. To help everyone find the right information, we would like to clarify the Embassy’s role.

Neither the Embassy nor any other Danish authority is involved in recruitment activities. The Embassy does not advertise vacancies, receive CVs, match applicants with employers, or cooperate with recruitment agencies.

For official and up-to-date information about working, interning or living in Denmark, we kindly refer you to www.newtodenmark.dk, the website of the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

Frequently asked questions

Does Denmark offer government-supported recruitment or labour mobility programmes for Ugandan professionals?
No. Denmark has no government recruitment initiatives or labour mobility programmes aimed at Ugandan nationals. Schemes such as the Positive Lists and the Fast-Track scheme are not recruitment programmes. They set the conditions under which a person who has already received a job offer from a Danish employer may apply for a work permit.

Can the Embassy connect me with Danish employers or recruitment agencies?
Unfortunately not. The Embassy has no information about individual employers’ recruitment needs and cannot refer applicants to companies or agencies. Finding a position and securing a job offer is the applicant’s own responsibility.

Can the Embassy help me find an internship in Denmark?
The Embassy does not arrange or offer internships. There are, however, opportunities for internships in Denmark in various sectors. Internships are typically arranged directly with a Danish company or organisation, or as part of an education programme. Once you have been offered an internship, you may need a residence and work permit. You can read about the requirements and how to apply at www.newtodenmark.dk. Please be wary of anyone who offers 100 % guaranteed internships in Denmark in return for payment.

Is there a partnership between Denmark and Uganda for the recruitment of skilled workers?
No. Denmark and Uganda have no agreement on the recruitment or relocation of workers.

Which official channels should I use?
You will find all official information about work and residence permits, including requirements and how to apply, at www.newtodenmark.dk. The Danish immigration authorities decide all applications. The Embassy is therefore unable to assess eligibility or the likely outcome of an application.

Can an agency fast-track my application, or help me prepare for an interview, book an appointment or submit my application?
No. No agency or intermediary can influence the outcome of your application, speed up its processing, or give you special access to appointments or interviews. All applications are processed by the Danish authorities on the same terms, whether or not a third party has been involved. You can submit your application and book any required appointments yourself through the official channels described on www.uganda.um.dk and www.newtodenmark.dk, and you do not need to pay anyone for these services. Please note that the Fast-Track scheme is a scheme for certified Danish employers. It is not a service that agencies can offer to applicants.

Does the Embassy provide guidance or referral services for jobseekers?
The Embassy does not offer career guidance, job referrals or individual advice on recruitment pathways. We encourage you to consult www.newtodenmark.dk, where the relevant information is set out clearly.

Studying and PhD opportunities in Denmark

Studying in Denmark is separate from employment and recruitment, and there are real opportunities for Ugandan students and researchers. These include:

  • EU Erasmus+ scholarships, including Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programmes and exchange opportunities. These are offered through participating universities and the European Union.
  • University collaboration, such as the Danida-supported Building Stronger Universities (BSU) programme. Under these programmes, Danish and Ugandan universities work together on research and capacity building, and this can include PhD and research opportunities.
  • PhD positions and degree programmes advertised directly by Danish universities.

Applications go directly to the universities or programmes concerned. The Embassy does not award scholarships or admit students. For specific information on studying in Denmark, including study programmes, admission and residence permits, please visit www.studyindenmark.dk and www.newtodenmark.dk.

Please be cautious of recruitment fraud

We kindly urge the public to be careful with individuals, agencies or websites that claim to recruit on behalf of the Embassy or the Danish government, or that promise jobs, visas or work permits in exchange for payment. The Embassy and other Danish authorities never charge fees for job offers and never use agents to recruit. Official application fees are listed on newtodenmark.dk
