If you need to use a foreign document in Denmark, you should find out whether it needs to be legalised or not. The Danish authority requesting the document can provide clarification on this matter. Since Uganda is not part of the Apostille Convention, all documents need to be double legalised. Legalisation does not guarantee the authenticity or accuracy of the document's content. Danish authorities may verify the authenticity of a document if necessary.

Double Legalising Documents

If you need to present a legalised Ugandan document to the Danish authorities, please follow the steps below:

Step 1

Submit your document to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda for legalisation. The Ministry will verify that the document is genuine and officially issued, after which it will be stamped and signed.

Step 2

After legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, book an appointment with the Embassy of Denmark in Kampala by emailing [email protected]..

The Embassy will legalise the document by confirming the authority of the official who signed the document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda.

Service Fee

The Embassy of Denmark charges a legalisation fee. Payment is accepted by bank transfer only. Cash payments are not accepted.

Important – Newly Re-issued Documents

If your document has recently been re-issued, the Embassy may request additional supporting documents. These may include:

  • Reason for re-issuing the document
  • Clinic card or baptism certificate (if applicable)
  • School leaving certificates
  • Letters from local authorities
  • Proof of date and place of birth
  • Parents’ nationality documentation

Additional supporting documents may be requested depending on the case.
