Laissez-Passer and Residence Permit

This information is only for people who have already been granted a Laissez-Passer Travel Document and a Residence Permit for Denmark.

Purpose 
Issuance of Laissez-Passer and Residence Permit to allow travels to Denmark.

This covers situations where the Danish Immigration Service has granted you a residence permit for the purpose of a stay in Denmark, typically for family reunification purposes. In some cases you do not have a have a national passport, and you have therefore also been granted a Laissez-Passer (travel document) which is issued by the Embassy of Denmark in Kampala.

Laissez-Passer or Uganda Convention Travel Document?

The Embassy recommends to apply for a Ugandan Convention Travel Document if you are eligible for such, typically if you are registered as a refugee in Uganda and been issued a Ugandan Refugee ID Card (plastic ID Card).

If you cannot obtain a Ugandan Convention Travel Document or a National Passport of your country, the Embassy will issue a Laissez-Passer for you.

Step-by-Step Procedure for Laissez-Passer and Permit

There are two processes to be completed: 

1. Identification and issuance of LP at the Embassy in Kampala.
2. Submission of biometrics and documentation af VFS Global in Kampala

These are two different process and must completed in this order in order to avoid unnecessary delays and frustrations. Read the procedures carefully.

Procedure

1. Notification: Receive notification of granted residence permit by the Danish Immigration Service or the Embassy of Denmark.
2. Identification at Embassy: For the issuance of a Laissez-Passer, you must present yourself in person at the Consular Section of the Danish Embassy in Kampala.

   2. You must bring photo ID and 1 recent passport photo.
   3. Pay the Embassy fee for the issuance of the Laissez-Passer according to the fees information mentioned below. Bring receipt if paid via bank transfer.
   4. Above is required for all applicants, adults and children.
3. Biometrics at VFS Global: Submit biometrics and documentation at VFS Global in Kampala.
   1. Appear at VFS GLobal offices in Kampala for capturing your biometrics (finger print and photo) and for handing in documentation.
