Online Event on #EUtransparency
On 9 March 2022, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands organised an online event on EU transparency. Participants included Jeppe Kofod (Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark), Anna Lührmann (Minister of State for Europe and Climate of Germany), Wopke Hoekstra (Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands), Emily O’Reilly (European Ombudsman), Daniel Freund (Member of European Parliament – Greens), the Commission and citizens involved in the Conference on the Future of Europe.
The starting point of the discussion was the citizen recommendations put forward during the Conference on the Future of Europe. While it was clear from the discussion that the EU has come a long way, the citizens want a more open, transparent and accountable European Union. For example, that EU institutions should be more active in their communication about their work, especially towards citizens who are unfamiliar with the EU, and that this communication should be in plain language.
