Greetings to our new Chargé d'affaires a.i.

A warm welcome to our new Chargé d'affaires a.i. Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, who has just arrived in Dublin to serve temporarily as acting head of the embassy. 

Ole joined the Danish diplomatic service back in 1987. He served as Denmark’s ambassador in Damascus during the cartoon crisis in 2006. Later he was Denmark’s envoy in Ankara and Warsaw. From 2011 to 2016 he served at headquarters as Under-secretary for consular affairs and diplomacy. 

His latest ambassadorial assignment was in Kyiv from 2020 to 2025. During his tenure in Kyiv Ole was heavily involved in Denmark’s patronage for the frontline city of Mykolaiv and the development of cooperation between the Danish and Ukrainian defence industry. 

After returning from Kyiv Ole served at headquarters as Special Representative for Private Sector Cooperation with Ukraine’s defence industry continuing his work in support of Ukraine’s resilience and fighting power. 

A few words from Ole on coming to Ireland: “I am thrilled to have this chance to serve in Dublin during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union and to be part of the hard-working embassy team. Ireland and Denmark joined the EU together back in 1973, we are both small, advanced economies highly integrated in the world economy and we are likeminded on so many issues. I saw that with my own eyes during my tenure in Ukraine. 

But relations are not only government-to-government. Many Danish companies are doing business in Ireland. They are proud to be part of Ireland’s dynamic development. And there are strong and vibrant people-to-people contacts.

I look forward to work on strengthening Danish-Irish relations even further and see as much of beautiful Ireland as possible. It is a fantastic opportunity for me a diplomat. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have ideas or suggestions for me to pursue during my mission here."
