Academic employee in the political and economic department

The embassy’s political and economic section works on a wide variety of topics, including domestic, foreign and European politics. The work is diverse and often determined by current political agendas in Denmark, Germany and internationally.
If hired, you will be assigned your own policy portfolio. Ideally, the embassy is looking for a colleague with experience in or knowledge of one or more of the following policy areas: domestic security (e.g. hybrid threats and cyber security), German domestic politics and/or migration policy. Applicants with a focus on other policy areas will, however, also be considered. Within the remit of your policy portfolio, you will be responsible for writing reports and analyses, answering instructions prior to EU-meetings at the ministerial level, planning high-level visits from Denmark, speechwriting and meeting preparation for the ambassador. You may also be asked to carry out other tasks, including cross-cutting tasks, at the embassy.

The advertised job is a local staff position. The weekly working hours amount to 37 hours. There are 25 days of paid holiday per year. The embassy operates a flexitime scheme that gives employees a certain degree of flexibility in organising their daily working hours. The salary is negotiated individually and is based on the applicant’s qualifications.

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

• A relevant university degree e.g., social science, political science, law or economics;
• Previous professional or practical experience within the field of work is not a prerequisite, but a clear advantage;
• High proficiency (spoken and written) in a Scandinavian language (professional proficiency) German (min. B2) and English;
• Sound understanding of the German and Danish political landscapes and special knowledge of/interest in German domestic politics;
• Broad knowledge of foreign and security policy;
• Basic knowledge of EU policy and cooperation;
• Basic knowledge of economic policy;
• Good collaborative skills and willingness to learn about new topics;
• Good interpersonal and networking skills;
• Flexible, independent and able to work under time pressure.
