Does your Danish passport expire?

It is a requirement that your passport is valid for minimum six month when you entering Myanmar.

If you want to renew, extend or if you want to apply for a first time Danish passport for a new born child, then you must contact a Danish diplomatic representation in the region. It could for instance be the Embassy of Denmark in Thailand. You need to book an appointment to submit an application. You can find more information about how to apply for passports on the representations website.

Going to Denmark

When a citizen from Myanmar wants to visit Denmark on a family or business trip is it necessary to apply for a visa. The Danish Embassy in Myanmar does not issue visas.

Short stay visa:

Denmark is part of the Schengen Region in Europe and a short stay visa for Denmark is a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay of less than 90 days in Denmark and other Schengen countries and does not give the holder right to reside or work in Denmark.
Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yangon, Myanmar resumes full Schengen Visa representation for Denmark starting from 1^st September 2022. All requests for short-term (up to 90 days) Schengen visas are to be submitted via VFS Global, Website: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/mmr/en/deu/.

Legalisation

When a Danish document is to be used abroad, it has to be legalised. For further information about legalisation of Danish documents please click here.
When a Danish document is to be used for the Myanmar authorities, it is usually required that both the original and the English translation are legalised by Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen, the Embassy of Denmark and afterwards by the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, it is often required that the document is also translated into Myanmar. The usual procedure is that the Embassy stamps the legalized documents by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming the signature, after which the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs affixes a similar stamp.
Please note, however, that the Embassy reserves the right to refuse to stamp a translation from English to Myanmar, which is flawed.

The legalisation of Myanmar documents and certificates to be used in Denmark, e.g. in case of marriage in Denmark, is as follows:
1. The Myanmar documents and the English translations* should first be legalised by the Consular Department in the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ signature has to then be legalised by the Embassy.
*Please note, that the Embassy reserves the right to reject legalising a translation which is not correct, even though it has already been legalised by the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
