AFDB - African Development Bank
AfDB's main objective is to promote economic and social development in African member countries through loans, investments and technical assistance.
The Bank provides low-interest loans to developing countries, primarily through borrowing on the international capital markets backed by equity and reserves. The Bank contributes through advisory services to improving the quality of the activities financed. A fund, the African Development Fund (AfDF), has been established as a joint institution of the AfDB and its member countries. The main objective of the Fund is to provide grants and soft loans to the poorest member countries of the Bank.
The African Development Bank is a preferred partner for African countries and plays a crucial role in promoting social and economic development. The Bank has developed the High-Five strategy to accelerate and focus the Bank's activities on energy, food, industrialisation, integration and improving the quality of life on the African continent.
Denmark's strategy for cooperation with the African Development Bank can be found here. The organisational strategy sets out the framework for Denmark's cooperation with the Bank from 2020-2024.
