AIIB - Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Denmark is a founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with a capital contribution of DKK 500 million. In addition, guarantee capital of DKK 2 billion is not required.
The AIIB became formally operational in January 2016 and has 87 members. The AIIB aims to promote sustainable economic development in Asia through infrastructure investment in a broad sense. According to its statutes, the AIIB must work closely with other multilateral and bilateral development actors, as well as the private sector.

The AIIB is capitalised at approximately USD 100 billion, of which about 75% is financed by regional members and the remainder by non-regional members. The AIIB contributes to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) broadly, but with a particular emphasis on Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
