Residence and Work Permits

On this page you can learn more about how apply for a residence or work permit.

In order to apply for a residence or work permit for Denmark follow this procedure:

  1. Create an application, submit documents, and receive a Case Order ID on New to Denmark.
  2. Pay the fee for the application (unless exempt from paying the fee). The fee must be paid DIRECTLY to the Danish authorities.
  3. Make an appointment for the recording of your biometrics at the Danish Embassy in Vienna on phone number +43 (0) 1 512 79 04 00. For the biometrics you must pay an additional fee online in the MFA Webshop before coming to the embassy.

Upon payment, please print the receipt and bring it along with the required documents. If you have not paid the fee online, the embassy cannot handle your case.

For online applications, when you have already uploaded the documents, please bring the following for the appointment:

  • Your receipt with the Case Order ID number from New to Denmark.
  • Your receipt of the online payment for the biometrics.
  • Your valid passport.
  • Your valid residence permit – if needed for your country of residence.
  • A colour copy of the data page of your passport. (Only the page with the photo).
  • A colour copy of your residence card or residence sticker.


For hard copy applications, when you have NOT uploaded any documents, please bring the following for the appointment:
(Please do not staple the pages of your documents.)   

  • A printout of your application.
  • Your receipt with the Case Order ID number from New to Denmark.
  • Your receipt of the online payment for the biometrics.
  • Your valid passport.
  • Colour copies of ALL the pages of your passport – also the blank pages and the cover.
  • Your valid residence permit – if needed for your country of residence. 
  • A colour copy of your valid residence permit for your current country of residence. 
  • Any additional documents mentioned in the application form. Please refer to your application.
  • Please allow approximately 30 minutes for the appointment.
