Heat networks: East England
On the 17th of November 2022, the Danish Embassy in the UK held conference at Homerton College in Cambridge looking at the potential for heat networks across the East of England.
The conference was jointly organized by the Greater South East Net Zero Hub and supported by Ramboll, Lin-Ka Energy, Aquatherm, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority,Pinnacle Power, GEA, SAV, and EDM International A/S.
Heat networks form an important part of the Government's plan to reduce carbon and cut heating bills for customers. Recent spikes in wholesale energy prices have sent shockwaves around the world and ignited the debate about the need to accelerate the transition away from gas boilers as the primary means to heat our homes and businesses.
The conference highlighted recent local heat network developments including examples from Cambridge City Council and Royal Borough of Kingston Council.
Input included perspectives from industry from in Denmark about their experiences of transitioning heat networks to net-zero by integrating renewables as well as waste-heat.
