The Danish Embassy in Damascus is looking for new colleagues

Four positions are available as: 

  1. Chief Financial Officer
  2. Administrative and Consular Officer
  3. Political and Trade Officer
  4. Development Officer


On 31 August 2026, Denmark reopened its embassy in Damascus. The Embassy is strengthening the Danish presence in Syria, and we are now seeking four new dynamic, positive and professional mission-employed staff members.

Positions and main areas of responsibilities, which might change as the embassy develops:

1.    Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

  • Responsible for financial administration and compliance at the Embassy
  • Expertise in financial rules and procedures, advising and supporting staff to ensure compliance in all Embassy running cost activities
  • Liaise with staff members to ensure timely budgeting, execution, settlement of invoices, event expenses, and operational commitments, incl. securing bank liquidity at all times
  • Quarterly financial reporting, manage budget process for Embassy operations, track expenditures, and coordinate adjustments 
  • Process invoices and tax/VAT issues, ensure every day running tasks, such as compliance, payments, invoice management and postings in the financial systems 
  • Monitor and report on balance accounts, reclassifying for closing matches open entries
  • Keep regular contact to the local bank for transactions, transfer letters and checks
  • Bank accounts (running), local bank balance monitoring and requesting fund when needed
  • Extracting monthly UMBI reports (credit cards) and following up on unsettled transactions
  • Experience with grant management a plus

2.    Administrative and Consular Officer

  • Administer chancery and housing for posted staff, purchase items, initial setup of housing and assist posted staff regarding the issues for maintenance of housing including security guards, service providers, security equipment installations and maintenance
  • Property Database and Inventory Management, including responsible for inventory lists
  • Monitoring Official Mailboxes, distributing mails and updating Contact Databases with PA
  • Super-user for archiving system and time registration
  • Local IT and GDPR focal point
  • Oversee vehicle logbooks, inspections, security matters and fuel consumption with driver team
  • Act as receptionist and coordinate reception with PA, drivers and other admin colleagues
  • Consular tasks including assistance to Danish citizens/residents in distress (hospitalisation, imprisonment, family cases etc.)
  • Crisis and emergency management including maintaining travel advice, liaison and cooperation with local authorities and other EU missions
  • Consular support on individual return and readmission cases as needed in dialogue with relevant Danish and Syrian authorities
  • Translate Note Verbales and send to authorities
  • Back-up to PA  

3.    Political and Trade Officer
•    Follow Arab and Syrian media, analysis and prepare reports on recent developments
•    Monitor domestic, regional and international developments regarding Syria
•    Follow migration trends and prepare cables to Copenhagen
•    Meet with development partners under the CAPACITY migration program activities
•    Draft internal and external cables, analytical reports, flash news reports, minutes of meetings, background briefings
•    Monitor and support progress on various bilateral issues
•    Maintain and expand the Embassy’s professional network
•    Attend conferences and events in Syria as needed
•    Support in planning and executing of delegation visits to Syria and Denmark
•    Follow and report on the economic situation, trade and investment issues
•    Responsible for Economic Diplomacy activities and events
•    Support Danish companies with concrete advice on Trade Council tasks and market entry
•    Market research, partner search and other commercial tasks
•    Meet relevant authorities, Syrian and Danish companies and expand embassy network
•    Support activities within a possible Syrian-Danish Business Council
•    Maintain and update activities in Trade Council CRM systems
•    Possibly responsible for Media and SoMe activities depending on profile

4.    Development Officer
•    Liaise closely with the Danish Embassy in Beirut, which manages Denmark’s development cooperation activities in Syria
•    Support the administration and monitoring of development projects and activities in Syria., Together with posted colleagues liaise with partners supported by Denmark
•    Prior experience with grant management and from a similar position required
•    Various support on delegations, meetings with authorities and partners, arrange site visits etc. regarding Danish development, humanitarian and reconstruction activities in Syria
•    Meet with relevant and potential new partners to develop and prepare project proposals
•    Follow and assist the management of Danish supported migration activities
•    Maintain close relations with implementing partners and relevant Syrian authorities
•    Contribute to planning technical and high-level visits from Denmark as well as ensuring coordination with other international actors

About the positions
The positions may be applied for by a citizen of Syria or other EU/Schengen nationals with legal stay in Syria and with unlimited work permit. Job responsibilities might change depending on the candidates’ experience and profiles. All applicants must be willing to carry out any other responsibility as required from time to time by the Embassy management and accept adjustment in areas of responsibility. Position 1 and 2 will be part of the finance-admin team together with the PA and three drivers.


Requirements for the positions
•    A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
•    At least 3-5 years of relevant hands-on working experiences within relevant field
•    Perfect verbal and written skills in Arabic and English. 
•    Knowledge of Denmark and Danish is a plus.
•    High degree of compliance in security, administration, finance
•    To be well organized, responsible, flexible and ability to work under pressure 
•    Excellent IT skills at user level, including skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other applications

Employment conditions 
•    Full-time employment on a local contract with a three (03) months’ probation period
•    Four weeks (20 working days) of paid holiday per year
•    Partial medical coverage for you and your immediate family members
•    Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related experiences
