Consular Matters

For DA version:  "Borgerservice"

Find answers to questions regarding translation, legalization, driving license, retention of Danish citizenship, criminal record, elections, marriage in Belgium, and much more.

If the Embassy cannot offer the service, we can guide you further to the relevant authority.

The embassy's Department for Citizen Services assists, among other things, in:

  • Advising Danes traveling abroad to have as safe a journey as possible.
  • Processing applications for passports, international driving licenses, visas, and residence and work permits for Denmark.
  • Advising on certain civil law matters and in connection with the legalization of Danish documents, issuing certificates, etc.
  • Translating Danish birth and personal certificates.
  • Issuing various certificates in local languages.
  • Holding elections and referendums.

Please note that the Embassy cannot pay for expenses in connection with emergency situations abroad and that, as a general rule, a fee must be paid for assistance abroad:

Fee for Consular Services and other Matters

Who can receive assistance?

All Danish citizens and foreign citizens with permanent residence in Denmark.

NB. Danish citizens with registered residence abroad must, as a general rule, contact the local authorities in their country of residence to apply for assistance.

However, persons who do not have Danish citizenship or who have dual citizenship cannot be sure that a foreign country will accept that Denmark will provide assistance if there is a conflict with the authorities of that country, e.g. in the event of imprisonment.

Danish citizens and foreigners with permanent residence in Denmark who have found themselves in need in various ways can, in urgent cases outside the embassy's opening hours, by calling the embassy's main number (02 233 09 00) and be transferred free of charge to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' 24/7 Citizen Service Center (direct tel. +45 33 92 11 12).

There are Danish consulates in Belgium in Antwerp, Brussels and Liège.

Below you will find a fold-out list with further information on citizen service information.
