Coronavirus Disease COVID-19: AstraZeneca vaccine

The Danish Medicines Agency and the Danish Health Authority agree with EMA that the AstraZeneca vaccine is effective and supports EMA’s general assessment that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.

The current epidemiological situation in Denmark is at a relatively stable point. The majority of persons at risk have been vaccinated or are scheduled to be vaccinated. In this light, the Danish Health Authority has decided not to bring back the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the Danish national vaccine roll-out in the current situation.

In its decision, the Danish Health Authority has weighed the current epidemiological situation in Denmark against the specific risk profile of the vaccine. The Danish Health Authority has not ruled out that the vaccine could be resumed in the Danish national vaccination programme if the situation changes.

The Protocol Department can confirm that a COVID-19 vaccination will be offered free of charge to all staff of Diplomatic Missions, International Organisations and Other Missions resident in Denmark and their accredited relatives. The Ministry of Health and the Protocol Department are working on the modalities and a plan will be communicated as soon as possible.
