The third phase of the gradual reopening of travel activities

As of 14 May 2021, the third phase of the political agreement regarding the gradual reopening of travel activities will be implemented.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Protocol Department, presents its compliments to all Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consulates accredited to Denmark and to International Organisations and Other Missions resident in Copenhagen and Honorary Consulates in Denmark and has the honour to share the following:

As of 14 May 2021, the third phase of the political agreement regarding the gradual reopening of travel activities will be implemented.

With the implementation of phase 3, the threshold for the risk assessment of EU and Schengen countries and regions (i.e. the 7-day notification rate) will be raised from 20/30 to 50/60. Countries and regions below this threshold will be categorised as “yellow”.

Moreover, the ban on non-essential travel (i.e. the requirement to have a worthy purpose) to Denmark for residents in “orange” EU and Schengen countries will be abolished. Measures such as isolation and testing still apply, however, isolation is not imposed for travellers from low risk areas (“yellow”).

More lenient rules still apply for some groups including vaccinated persons, the transport sector as well as for persons resident in the border regions. As of        14 May 2021, the restrictions applied to residents in border regions are further relaxed, as isolation is no longer required when entering Denmark.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to advise against all unnecessary travel even though a country or region is classified as “yellow” if the country or region has extensive travel restrictions.

Further information, including which documentation requirements will apply, will be made available here: https://coronasmitte.dk/en/entry-into-denmark.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Protocol Department, takes this opportunity to renew to all Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consulates accredited to Denmark and to International Organisations and Other Missions resident in Copenhagen and Honorary Consulates in Denmark the assurances of its highest consideration.
