Meet the Consul General

Consul General Simon Wandel-Petersen

Simon Wandel-Petersen has been the Consul General of Denmark in Guangzhou since August 2026, covering the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hainan. He joined the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2017 and has held several positions in Copenhagen and Brussels working across European affairs, trade policy, climate and energy policy, international negotiations and green economic diplomacy.

Before taking up his position in Guangzhou, Simon served as Deputy Director in the Department for Green Diplomacy and Climate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was responsible for Denmark’s international climate diplomacy and green economic diplomacy, including international climate finance and cooperation with Danish companies and authorities within energy, water, maritime, food and agriculture. He was part of Denmark’s delegation to several UN climate conferences working on international climate negotiations and efforts to mobilise public and private finance for the green transition.

Previously, Simon served as strategic advisor on international climate negotiations for the Minister of Climate and thereafter Deputy Director of the Department for Cross-Cutting Climate Policy. He has also served at the Danish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, where he worked on European climate and energy policy.

Simon holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen. Alongside his diplomatic career, he has taught at the University of Copenhagen for several years, including courses on climate diplomacy and international politics.
