Become a Commercial Energy Advisor at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Are you passionate about energy, geopolitics and international business – and motivated by turning insights and relationships into opportunities for Denmark and Danish companies?

If so, you may be our new Commercial Energy Advisor.

As a Commercial Energy Advisor, you will work at the intersection of energy policy, diplomacy and business. You will monitor U.S. energy policy, build relationships with key stakeholders across the Administration, Congress and the energy sector, and translate market and policy developments into opportunities for Denmark and Danish companies.

With a strong commercial mindset and sector insight, you will contribute to strategy development, business development and the Embassy’s engagement with Danish and American companies and organizations. You will also plan and execute high-impact events, delegations and networking activities that creates value for Danish companies and strengthen Denmark’s energy network across the United States. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Engage with key stakeholders across the U.S. Administration, Congress and relevant federal and state authorities, building strong relationships and advancing Danish interests.
• Monitor and analyze U.S. energy policy at federal and, where relevant, state level, identifying developments and opportunities relevant to Denmark and Danish companies.
• Build and expand Denmark’s energy network across the U.S., fostering relationships with policymakers, authorities, industry stakeholders and other key partners.
• Provide sector expertise and commercial insight to the energy team’s engagement with Danish and American companies, organizations and partners across the energy sector.
• Contribute to analysis and strategic development of Denmark’s engagement with the U.S. energy sector, connecting policy developments, market opportunities and Danish priorities.
• Translate political developments into commercial opportunities for Danish companies.
• Plan and deliver high-impact events, business delegations and networking activities that strengthen Denmark’s North American energy network and create opportunities for Danish companies.

Required qualifications

• Relevant academic education, e.g. in business and/or political affairs.
• Experience with public affairs and government relations
• Good commercial understanding of energy policy and personal experience with cooperation between the private and public sector.
• Knowledge of energy policy and regulation.
• Proven ability to build relationships and establish trust with companies, authorities and other key stakeholders.
• Ability to manage many relations and projects simultaneously – and to identify business opportunities and expand connections.
• Knowledge of American political and business culture would be an advantage.
• Fluency in English. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.

Employment conditions

• You will be employed locally as a Commercial Energy Advisor at the Danish Embassy in Washington, 3200 Whitehaven Street NW, and reporting to both the Sector Team Lead for Energy in Houston and the Head of Economic Diplomacy in Washington.
• You will be offered full-time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract. Standard working hours are 37 hours per week.
• The Trade Council provides paid export advisory services and operates with KPIs related to activity levels and value creation.
• Employment is governed by the Local Staff Rules of the Danish representations in North America.
• Preferred starting date is January 4, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.
