How to apply for a visa

Only apply for a Danish Schengen visa if you genuinely plan to travel to Denmark

If you travel to another Schengen country on a Schengen visa issued by Denmark without having already visited or plan to visit Denmark, you may be suspected of ‘visa-shopping’. This can lead to denied entry at the border and your visa may be revoked. It may also lead to an entry ban and negatively impact any future Schengen visa applications.

* Applying for a Schengen visa where it is expected to be approved faster, rather than in the Schengen country you intend to visit.

The normal processing time for a visa application is 15 days and currently the processing time is 15 days.

This period may be extended to up to 45 days if a more detailed examination of the application and/or additional documents are required. Additionally, some applications will be submitted to the Danish Immigration Service (DIS). In those cases, around 45 days should be added to the processing time.

The Consulate General of Denmark in New York is a Regional Visa Hub for North America. We process visa applications for Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland in the United States, Canada and Mexico. You must have legal stay in either of the countries where you apply.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commissioned VFS Global to operate the Danish Visa Application Centres in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Applicants applying for short-term business, private visit or tourist Schengen visas for Denmark should submit their applications and have their biometrics obtained at one of the VFS Global's offices. By appointment only.

When you need a visa for the Schengen area as well as Greenland and/or the Faroe Islands:
If you are traveling to Greenland and/or the Faroe Islands and will also be visiting or transiting through a Schengen country, you must apply for a visa through the Schengen country where you will spend the most time.
If Denmark is the country where you will stay the longest within the Schengen area, you only need to submit one visa application through Denmark.
